Earlier this year Mayflower Medical Group [MMG] was subject to an inspection by the Care Quality Commission [CQC]. The report detailing its findings have been published on the CQC website.
Unfortunately these findings are not as positive as we would have hoped – MMG has been given an overall rating of inadequate, as a result of which it has been placed in special measures. We acknowledge we have fallen short in several areas and, while we can only apologise for this, plans are already in place to affect improvements.
While recognising there were significant obstacles to overcome, in the absence of any other provider, we agreed to take on the five branch surgeries which now operate under the MMG banner. Several factors beyond our control, and which could not have been foreseen, have meant it is taking longer than we would have hoped to turn them around.
Plainly, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted markedly on our ability to deliver the level of care we aspire to. In addition, the clinical workforce issues that are impacting healthcare services nationally have also been felt hard here in Plymouth.
Nevertheless, we remain confident that Mayflower Medical Group is well equipped to overcome these challenges and our staff and clinicians are intent on doing so. As a not-for-profit social enterprise committed to Putting Patients First, we look forward to demonstrating this to all our stakeholders.
