Sexual Health In Plymouth Update

We wanted to highlight to you the fact that Sexual Health in Plymouth continues to run an easily accessible NHS abortion service in Plymouth. We encourage patients to contact us direct on 01752 431129 to book their appointment and they do not require a referral from your practice.

Our website has resources on all the options available to them at their appointment.  We ask them to fill out an online medical assessment and have a telephone consultation before they attend so we endeavour to provide care in the most efficient way possible for them and reduce face to face time. Medical abortion is provided as a one stop appointment for those who wish to access this, and on a Friday we can offer same day scan and surgical procedures under local anaesthetic.

For clarity we provide medical abortion up to 10 weeks as a home procedure, surgical abortion under local anaesthetic up to 11 weeks and surgical abortion under general anaesthetic up to 14 weeks.

We also offer contraception and STI screening during their assessment process. On the day implant insertion is available at medical termination of pregnancy as well as IUS or IUD at a follow up appointment.

We have been open throughout COVID and continue to provide ultrasound assessment pre procedure. We would be happy for you to provide the link to our website on your practice webpage to facilitate patient access.

In addition we have a counsellor available by telephone or in person for both pre and post TOP care.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Megan Griffiths
